DJ Batman

* Radio Background:
     While stationed in SE Asia with the 6217TH Combat Support Group, "Airman" Beatty was a Disc Jockey for the US Air Force at Ching Chuan Kang Royal Chinese Air Base, Taichung, Taiwan, during the Vietnam Era. Here he played parties for the Chinese and Americans at the local college, as well as being the host of the Billboard Magazine Top Ten Countdown radio program on the Armed Forces Network Taiwan (AFNT).
     Airman First Class Beatty also volunteered as the NCO liaison for "Operation Drug Amnesty" in Taiwan, a program that assisted Air Force personnel that acquired drug problems during the war. The program assured the participant no less than a General or Medical Discharge, and made available much needed treatment for their dependency. Many Airmen took advantage of this opportunity, and thereby were able to avoid Bad Conduct discharges. Beatty was the liaison between the Airmen and the medical staff at the base hospital.

* First Job As "DJ BATMAN":
     Played records as a favor to a friend who had purchased a small bar (now "Buxy's) in Ocean City.

Quote That Changed His Life:
      "A DJ? Sure, you can have a DJ in your club. A DJ is not entertainment." [Ocean City Liquor Control Board]. Information given to a bar owner that had a "No Entertainment" restriction on his liquor license, when he called to ask if it was OK to "have a guy play some records". The conversation took place a few hours before the first time Mike ever put a needle on a record as "DJ Batman".
